1. Acceptance of terms

By accessing gbtzero.net or using the GBT Zero AI content detection tool, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated herein by reference. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use this site or the detection service.

These terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access or use the service, whether on a free basis or through any paid or institutional arrangement. If you are using the service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these terms, and references to “you” include that organization.

2. Description of service

GBT Zero provides an AI content detection tool that analyzes submitted text and returns a probabilistic detection score indicating the estimated likelihood that the text was generated by an AI language model. The service also provides supporting signal-level analysis (perplexity, burstiness, lexical diversity, and sentence entropy) and, through the full report feature, sentence-level breakdown and plagiarism analysis.

The service is provided on an “as is” basis. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the service at any time, with or without notice. We will not be liable to you or to any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the service.

3. No guarantee of accuracy

The detection score returned by GBT Zero represents a statistical estimate of the probability that the submitted text was AI-generated, based on the signals described on our About page. This estimate is subject to the following documented limitations:

• Short texts (under 100 words) produce results with wider uncertainty margins and should be treated as indicative only.
• Heavily edited or paraphrased AI content may score lower than unmodified AI output, as post-generation editing can reduce the statistical patterns on which detection relies.
• Formal human writing, particularly from non-native English speakers, may produce elevated scores due to structural and lexical patterns that overlap with AI-generation signals.
• Detection coverage of newly released AI models may lag until calibration data is available for those models.
• Detection results may vary between submissions of identical or similar text due to model updates and calibration changes over time.

You acknowledge these limitations and agree that GBT Zero’s detection results are intended to inform human judgment, not replace it. Any consequential use of detection results is solely at your own risk and discretion.

4. Acceptable use

You may use the GBT Zero service for lawful purposes consistent with these terms. Acceptable uses include:

• Reviewing written content to assess the likelihood of AI involvement, as part of an editorial, academic, or professional review process.
• Using detection results as one input among several in an academic integrity workflow, provided results are not used as the sole basis for disciplinary action.
• Checking your own writing or content before submission to understand how it may be scored by AI detection systems.
• Research into AI detection methodology, provided such research complies with applicable law and these terms.
• Integration of the service into institutional or organizational workflows in accordance with any applicable agreement with GBT Zero.

You are responsible for ensuring that your use of the service, and any decisions you make based on detection results, comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and institutional policies.

5. Prohibited uses

The following uses of the GBT Zero service are expressly prohibited:

5.1 Academic fraud and misrepresentation

• Using detection results to misrepresent AI-generated content as human-written for submission to any academic institution, examination body, or educational program.
• Using the service to identify and selectively edit AI-generated content for the purpose of evading detection at an academic institution, in violation of that institution’s academic integrity policies.
• Misrepresenting the results of a GBT Zero detection to a third party — for example, falsely claiming a high-scoring submission received a low score, or vice versa.

5.2 Discriminatory or harmful decisions

• Using detection results as the sole or primary basis for employment termination, denial of academic credit, disciplinary proceedings, or legal action against any individual, without independent corroborating evidence or review.
• Using detection results to discriminate against individuals on the basis of language background, disability, or any other protected characteristic.

5.3 Technical abuse

• Accessing the service through automated means (bots, scrapers, crawlers) at a volume that places unreasonable load on our infrastructure, without prior written authorization.
• Attempting to reverse-engineer, probe, or circumvent the detection methodology or scoring engine.
• Submitting content designed to probe model weaknesses or calibration parameters for the purpose of developing adversarial content that evades detection.
• Using the service to collect or harvest data about GBT Zero’s detection behavior at scale for the purpose of building a competing detection or evasion product.

5.4 Unlawful use

• Submitting content that violates applicable law, including content that constitutes harassment, defamation, or infringement of third-party intellectual property rights.
• Using the service in any manner that violates applicable export control, sanctions, or data protection laws.

6. Intellectual property

6.1 GBT Zero’s intellectual property

The GBT Zero service, including its detection methodology, scoring algorithms, signal models, calibration data, software, design, text, and all other content and materials on gbtzero.net, is owned by or licensed to the operator of GBT Zero and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Nothing in these terms transfers any ownership interest in GBT Zero’s intellectual property to you.

You may not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, transmit, display, perform, publish, license, create derivative works from, or sell any information, content, or materials obtained from the service, except as expressly permitted by these terms or with our prior written consent.

6.2 Your content

You retain all ownership rights in the text you submit to the detection tool. By submitting text, you grant GBT Zero a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to process that text solely for the purpose of providing the detection service to you. This license terminates when processing is complete. We do not claim any rights over submitted text beyond what is necessary to operate the service.

You represent and warrant that you have the right to submit any text you provide to the service, and that doing so does not violate any third party’s intellectual property rights, confidentiality obligations, or applicable law.

6.3 Feedback

If you submit feedback, suggestions, or ideas regarding the service, you grant GBT Zero a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use that feedback for any purpose without obligation to you. We are not required to implement or respond to any feedback received.

7. Limitation of liability

In no event shall GBT Zero’s total liability to you for all claims arising out of or related to the service exceed the greater of: (a) the amount you paid to GBT Zero in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred US dollars (USD $100).

These limitations apply regardless of the theory of liability — whether in contract, tort (including negligence), strict liability, or otherwise — and regardless of whether GBT Zero has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Some jurisdictions do not permit the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. In such jurisdictions, GBT Zero’s liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

The GBT Zero service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, GBT Zero expressly disclaims all warranties, including but not limited to:

• Implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
• Any warranty that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components.
• Any warranty regarding the accuracy, reliability, completeness, or timeliness of detection results.
• Any warranty that the service will meet your specific requirements or that any particular outcome will result from use of the service.

You use the service at your own risk. No advice or information, whether oral or written, obtained from GBT Zero or through the service creates any warranty not expressly stated in these terms.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless GBT Zero and its operators, employees, contractors, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:

• Your use of the service in violation of these terms.
• Any content you submit to the service that infringes the rights of a third party.
• Any decision or action you take based on detection results from the service.
• Your violation of any applicable law or regulation in connection with your use of the service.

We reserve the right to assume exclusive control of the defense of any matter subject to indemnification by you, in which case you agree to cooperate with our defense of such claim.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the service at any time, with or without cause and with or without notice, including but not limited to the following circumstances:

• Violation of these terms, including prohibited uses described in Section 5.
• Conduct that we determine, in our sole discretion, is harmful to other users, to the service, or to third parties.
• Requests from law enforcement or other government agencies.
• Discontinuation or material modification of the service.

Upon termination, your right to access and use the service ceases immediately. Sections 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 11 of these terms survive termination.

11. Governing law and dispute resolution

11.1 Governing law

These terms and any dispute arising out of or related to them or the service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

11.2 Jurisdiction

You agree that any legal action or proceeding arising out of or relating to these terms or the service shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in the State of Delaware, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

11.3 Informal resolution

Before initiating any formal legal proceedings, you agree to attempt to resolve any dispute informally by contacting us at [email protected] and providing a written description of the dispute. We will attempt to resolve the dispute within 30 days of receiving your notice. If the dispute is not resolved within that period, either party may pursue formal remedies.

11.4 Users outside the United States

If you access the service from outside the United States, you do so at your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with applicable local laws. To the extent that local mandatory law provides rights that cannot be excluded by contract, nothing in these terms is intended to limit those rights.

12. Changes to these terms

We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.

If you disagree with a change to these terms, your sole remedy is to stop using the service. We encourage you to review this page periodically to stay informed of any updates.
